So, after Thomas Doll and Kalle Riedle, we have another German player which I bviously like. Good thing is, he is a very decent player. Willkommen bei Lazio, Thomas.

According to various sources we paid 450.000 Euros for him and signed a contract until the summer of 2012. He is left-footed, has a superb shot and is a smart player. He is not fast, but who is that on our team despite Zarate and maybe Foggia? Hitzlsperger will be highly motivated because he wants to earn a spot on Germany's squad.

motivation is not enough. he sucks lately and that is why he's benched ant Stuttgart. I like him very much also since his years in Villa. Hope he rediscovers his form! Wilkommen!

For me it is a great transfer... Finnaly we have a guy who can pass the ball and can shoot from a distance and not to be Kolarov :)

I write this with a bit of concern that we haven't actually seen him on the pitch yet and recent events suggest that even a player presented in our shirt is not actually here yet Wink

There is no doubt Thomas should be a better player than most of our midfield. It is worrying that he has been on a downward slope at Stuttgart for a season or more (I don't watch Bundesliga, just seen what has been written) but I saw enough in him before to think he'll be decent if he adapts to Serie A (and Balla's weird logic).

At Aston Villa he quickly got into the first team in 2002 on merit after some assured displays and the odd long range rocket goal, although I must add that although he has a fine left foot, do not expect him to be a prolific scorer. His passing was always good, especially the longer ball and he was also a strong player who can tackle. In short, he would have almost certainly been good if coming to us a season or two ago, maybe he has had a few problems recently, but 50 German caps, aged 27 and with a season of captaincy behind him, I'm still happy.

One funny thing I remember was that he developed a strange Brummy/German accent to his English!

I'm very excited about this signing! he will add some much needed creativity to our offensive play, he has a good vision and passing and a killer left foot shot!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgO_OFP3phY&feature=related

there you can see few of his goals compared to another crazy shot leftie, tarnat.

Herzlich Willkommen!

He will help us, I'm sure about that!
He lead Stuttgart to the Meisterschaft one time and another two times to the Champions League...a player like him for something less than 1 Mio is very decent!!
And not to forget he was born close to my hometown...

No, that's a miss judgement. Hitze can't really play as a left-back. German NT coach Jogi Löw placed him there some times, but he is clearly a central midfielder.

Thomas Hitzlsperger Looking Forward To New Beginning At Lazio
The German midfielder is more than satisfied with his move to Italy...
By Stefan Coerts

Highly rated midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger opted to leave Stuttgart for Lazio after he had lost his spot in the starting XI at the Schwaben, and the German international is looking forward to a fresh beginning at his new club.

"In recent weeks and months things haven't gone well for me and Christian Gross made it very clear that he has more players in my position that he is satisfied with at the moment," said Hitzlsperger on the official Stuttgart website.

"I did all I could to perform well at the training camp but my colleagues are in good form and really don't deserve to be left out right now. Lazio showed a great deal of interest in me and have signalled that I will play.

"Additionally, the national team coach, Joachim Loew, said that I have to be playing if I want to be taken to the World Cup. The reasons for my move are purely sporting.

"For me, this step in moving to Italy is really appealing. The move is not an escape but instead a new beginning for me. I am fit and I hope to be able to play against Catania on Sunday. I'm really looking forward to the task there."

who has a say over the eventual decision? can Hitz leave Lazio at the end of the current season without any reason, vice versa for us (meaning Lazio can sign him this summer without player's approval).

Or everything must be decided by unanimous agreements?

Then if he decides to stay at Lazio, he will renew his contract with Lazio for two years.
or not?... he will be free...

He is probably the best buy we've had in the past 5 years, better than Zarate imo. Only because he has proved season after season he can cut it, and perform consistently in top clubs in top leagues.

I am over the moon with this purchase. Regardless whether or not he re-signs, i'm buying his jersey. cheers

All German players are fighters! It's better to say for Hitzlsperger that he is a playmaker. He has a great shot and can give really good passes.
