This should be our formation for the away matches, offensive but not to offensive just enough to get a win away from Olimpico.
I Choose Rocchi before Zaraté because of the counter attacks, and to let Zaraté know that we are a team.

This is how I want the formation for the home games! Its offensive, its our Olimpico, you cant come to our house and get points! Firmani or Dabo as a deffensive midfielder, one of them can help do the c-rap work. Foggia and Zaraté behind Floccari, the both of them are creative, they can get thrue the defence, and Floccari as our striker. Ledesma, Matuzalem and Hitzelsperger will help Foggia and Zaraté with excellent passes and make it easier for Foggia and Zaraté, give them the ball that they always wanted, the ball that Baronio couldnt always give. But Zaraté must learn how to play as a team if this formation is going to work.

This is my toughts what do you think? What tactics would you choose if you were the coach?

@all: if Matuzalem and Ledesma would be back, there would not be a place for Firmani. Sorry guys, but we have more quality player than him.

I like this formation as a safe & solid tactic.

Wing backs running those lines, dragging defenders wide & providing the option for overlap.
I want to see Foggia lift his workrate & screaming for the ball, creating angles & providing options for his midfield, allowing them to pass, push-up & counter.
should more fire power be required, the defensive midfielder is sacrificed for another striker (Zarate in this case) alongside Floccari.


This works for the U16 team i coach, not sure if i'm on the same coaching level as those in the Serie A though? Although, i think i've got Balla pegged

If Reja plays a back three as I expect, Radu, Stendardo and one of Biava or Dias will probably make up the defence. IMO Diakite' can be a bit of a liability moreso when we play back three. I don't mind him in a back four though.

In midfield, we have the regista (Ledesma or Baronio), the mediano (Firmani, Brocchi and Dabo) and the third place to be between Matuzalem and Hitzlsperger.

So a basic three man central midfield will have Ledesma, Matuzalem and a rotation between Firmani, Brocchi and Dabo. If we're going to play with a trequartista, you'd hope that Foggia would start ahead of the very average Mauri, I'm not the biggest fan of Matuzalem playing there.

** You can see how much quality we lose when Baronio is there instead of Ledesma.

In a 3-5-2, you'd have Kolarov and Licht on the outside, and the same 3 man midfield.

In a 4-4-2, which I don't think we'll use, Kolarov drops to the LB place as above, and Foggia comes in as the only real option as left midfield but then we're probably stuck with Brocchi on the right. I don't like that idea much. It's ridiculous we don't have the players to fit that system well IMO.

Zarate and Floccari up front with Rocchi and Cruz as options off the bench.

Siviglia and Makinwa can stay in the tribuna.

As Chris mentions on his last post, Diakite can be a little bit of liability sometimes, his position isn't really good, he could be exposed, especially if we're playing 3 at the back... I am not saying Biava/Dias better than Diakite, but I think they have enough experience and skill to be on the 1st eleven.

I´m on your side frederick. You are right. I also think that Dias or Biava have more experience.

don´t get me wrong. I also like this type of player, but Foggia didn´t impress me. He played very often last season under Rossi, but I can´t tell you 5 games in a row where Foggia was one of the best of the pitch. Sorry.

He hasn't impressed me either. But we need to try something new cause the Mauri thing isn't working. Give Pasquale some time under Reja and let's see how he goes.

for CBs we can chose between Sten Dia Radu Biava and Dias, don't want to drop Radu cause he has improved, also sten and dia have been very stable and I liked Dias' display against catania

Mauri was great 3 seasons ago, I remember his connection between him, Rocchi and Pandev, the understanding between them was great, or fantastic performance against Udinese a few seasons ago? I don't understand how a player (who has represented Italian NT) become bad in one season?? Maybe is not his fault after all??

last season he wasn't good too so it's not just this season

Totally agree with this one. Foggia should get a new chance now with a differen coach, but if he play like he has this season he should go back to the bench. I just hope he can find his form. We all know how good he can be then.

Maybe we should merge all the threads in starting XIs and so?

I would prefer 4 defenders (everything else is just old-fashioned, no modern football), a typical 4-4-2 with 2 CBs. The wing defenders should push forward from time to time,
espacially Lichti, to put crosses in the box! Zarate as something like a connection between midfield and Flocc, there he would get many passes, exactly what he needs.
And on the left we have Hitz, Kolarov and Radu, the three guys can switch between themselfes and cause some confusion to the opponents!

And I would not use Foggia as a starter, he lacks too much defensive quality...(and in hard times a team cannot afford two players, Maurito, of this type)

dias should be used as a CB..he's too slow to be covering the sides
