Vancouver Winter Olympics

Today the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada, starts. I dnt know about where you guys live, but here in Sweden the olympics are all over the place. Personally, I dont really care that much, but the Ice-Hockey tourney will become a good contest and therefore I will follow it from time to time. Sad thing is that all games are held in the middle of the night, CET time.

In any case, here is a thread for those who feel they have anything to say on the Winter Olympics (I dont really expect this to become the most busy thread, since some of you guys seem to get amazed by 0.2 cm of snow on your streets )

I'm very excited about the ice-hockey but don't care about anything else there!

Cash, the games are mostly at 10pm or 7am, here in finland, so its not too bad in sweden either!

The weather is fucking up these games. A shame really. Although i only find hockey interesting and it isn't affected by the weather I feel sorry for the athletes who consider this the pinnacle of their career.

They also seem to have problems with the things in and around the games, as well as getting snow to the mountains and so. Bad security, shitty time-keeping and lots of mistakes in the final standings and such in the result updates on screen.
As you said Sile, it is a bit sad for all the freaks who have spent hours and hours skiing, ice-skating or biathloning, and then are met by this...

These games really are a shame...

Our woman, Petra Majdič, cross country sprint favorite, fell into an unprotected 3m ditch during warm up and still managed to get a bronze medal in the end. She has 4 broken ribs and a pneumotorax and her games are over. She also was a favorite in the 30km, but she has to go home (actually can't fly with a pneumotorax) because of the organizators' negligence...

she really is a fighter! went to big up her medal in a wheelchair. get well soon!

Also Swedish alpine skier Anja Pärson is a fighter, yesterday she crashed during her downhill race, but still today she managed to come back and get the bronze in the super combined competition.

For the first time i really watched something on time...and i have to admit those swedish bricks are so good this year.....what a team from Sweden. I even felt sorry for Olsson when that russian guy catched him down but in the end everything worked well for you....But what the hell has happened to Finland...

USA v Canada I`m going to watch the first two periods but it`ll be a little past my bedtime to watch the whole game.

GB won a gold yesterday in the skeleton,and the girl lives in the same place as me and there was a big party on at the pub..and she`s got the same surname as me and this is a very long way to say that I no I don`t know her and never met her in my life. Nevertheless a winter olympic gold is something to cheer about in the UK.

I didnt sleep at all last night because I watched Russia-Canada, Finland-Czech and Sweden-Slovakia, PERFECT RESULTS!
Canada really showed how to play ice hockey, there really wasnt a match after 30 minutes anymore, that was something special to see!
Finland fought very very well and got the win they (we) deserved!
And on the top of the icing, Sweden lost and is out of the top4!!

I love ice hockey!

I was also watching Canada - Russia, and it was a great game. Russia's goalie Nabukov or whatever really dropped the ball. Then fell asleep and woke up at 7:30 for work, and saw the other results. The semi's will be awesome.

I hope Slovakia takes it now, but can't see how any team should beat Canada. Outstanding performance against the Russians.
