| Soros Drops Roma Takeover Bid According to Il Romanista, Roma will remain in the hands of the Sensi family after American businessman George Soros dropped all plans to take over the club. The Italian media has been permeated by reports over the past few months that Roma were set to be taken over due to the fact that the club’s parent company, Italpetroli, possess debts in the region of €370m. The main groups linked with a take-over have all been led by American businessmen. Most recently it seemed that 78-year-old billionaire political activist George Soros was closing in on capturing the club. Indeed the Gazzetta Dello Sport claimed yesterday that the Sensi’s were ready to sell the club immediately and that a deal may be concluded by yesterday evening, with Soros said to be offering €283m including €219m for the family's 66 percent stake in the club. However Il Romanista today says that Soros has pulled the plug on all plans to buy Roma, and notified the club at 17:00 CET yesterday evening. Reportedly the decision not to buy Roma was Soros’, who twice had the chance to put the finishing touches to the deal, first last Friday, and against yesterday. This news, if confirmed, will delight may traditionalists who hope that Serie A doesn’t sell its soul to foreign investors. However others believe that the money Soros could have brought in would have improved the level not only of Roma, but the whole of Serie A itself. Alessio Alexis | |

I hope soros turns his eye on Lazio as there is a lot of potential. Just buy out Lotito shares and the fans will come flocking back in numbers. We have a huge fan base, lots of money to be made soros. | |

| The last thing I want is for Serie A to become another Premiership. We should stick to domestic investments, maybe someone should try and contact Bertarelli again! | |

| Im against foreigners buying Italian football clubs
hope Soros stays away from both Roma and Lazio
we dont need him, the only thing worse than Lotito would be a foreigner only looking for money with no love for Lazio
we need a passionate Laziale to take control, someone who actually cares about the success of the club | |

- Soros close to Roma Wednesday 28 May, 2008
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The American Press is reporting that Hungarian-born philanthropist George Soros is close to buying Roma.
The New York Post believes Joseph Tacopina, one of America's best lawyers and an associate of Soros, is expected in the Italian capital this week.
“A deal should be done by Friday,” wrote the Post. “An exact figure of purchase is, as yet, unknown.”
Italpetroli, the company that holds a majority stake in Roma, had denied the existence of a bid on Saturday and asked the Press to stop speculating.
But the oil giant is in nearly £300m worth of debt and Consob, the Italian companies and stock exchange watchdog, has recommended the club's sale.
Roma's share price fell by 11.26 per cent today, prompting the media to speculate that a deal is in the offing. I've met Joe Taco a Laziale when he visited while I still had Curva Nord on the Upper East Side, a friend of Pao Tse Tung aus Salame Street@Porta Pia. It's him right Pao?

| Looks like Roma are going through a moment we love so much...
Soros withdraws Roma interest Thursday 29 May, 2008
Hungarian-born philanthropist George Soros is no longer interested in buying Roma, according to the American Press.
The 77-year-old, who is based in the United States, has been repeatedly linked with a move for the Giallorossi in recent months.
The Sensi family, who preside over Roma, has gone to great lengths to deny the existence of any bid for the club, despite rampant speculation.
The New York Post yesterday reported that Joe Tacopina, Soros' lawyer, is due in Rome this week to iron out a deal.
The New York Daily News has today, however, quoted Soros' spokesman as saying: “To a certain degree, Soros Fund Management is interested in Roma.
“But only as much as it is interested in hundreds of other businesses. In the end, a decision has been taken to withdraw from negotiations.
“Soros Fund Management is no longer thinking about this deal.”
Roma fans are believed to be angry about the uncertainty surrounding their club and its financial health.
Italpetroli, the Sensi-owned company which owns Roma, is £295m in debt.
Consob, the Italian Commission for Companies and the Stock Market, has recommended that the club be sold to manage the debt.
