Quote :
Lazio defender Lorenzo De Silvestri has recovered from his Olympic disappointment and expects a great season with the Aquile.

Promising stopper De Silvestri was part of Pierluigi Casiraghi's team in China that fell to Belgium 3-2 in the quarter-finals but he has taken the defeat in his stride.

“It was a unique adventure and it was all the more special to me because I play other sports as well as football,” he explained. “To be around the medalists was a great honour.

“Against Belgium we lacked a little experience and I think that the loss of Tommaso Rocchi was a factor.

“In any case I will always take the experience with me and I will be able to tell my children that I was in Beijing.”

Despite last season's underachievement, De Silvestri has high hopes for Delio Rossi's galvanised squad in the coming campaign.

“I have come back to an exceptional group and now it is up to us to impress the fans with our exploits on the pitch,” he said.

“Francelino Matuzalem impressed me because of his experience and in the way he controls the ball and Mauro Zarate seems like a great swoop - I hope he adapts to Italian football well.”

C4

He is the first Lazio regular from last season to have spoken. Let's hope he will carry this enthusiasm into the season ahead and stay with Lazio in years to come.

From what I know he has not been called up. The ooficial list that I can get my hands on include:

Gianluigi Buffon, Juventus
Marco Amelia, Palermo
Morgan De Sanctis, Galatasaray

Andrea Barzagli, Wolfsburg
Fabio Cannavaro, Real Madrid
Marco Cassetti, Roma
Andrea Dossena, Liverpool
Alesandri Gamberini, Fiorentina
Fabio Grosso, Lyon
Nicola Legrottaglie, Juventus
Gianluca Zambrotta, Milan

Alberto Aquilani, Roma
Mauro Camoranesi, Juventus
Daniele De Rossi, Roma
Gennaro Gattuso, Milan
Angelo Palombo, Sampdoria
Andrea Pirlo, Milan

Alessandro Del Piero, Juventus
Antonio Di Natale, Udinese
Alberto Gilardino, Fiorentina
Vincenzo Iaquinta, Juventus
Luca Toni, Bayern München

The list you have written Abed is containing far too many names. Where is it taken from? Interesting to know, think we all want to know how close De Silvestri is to join the NT...

let me clarify,

nations have to present a 50 man squad to FIFA of players they will call up for the qualifying tournament.

De Silvestri is in that list so will play at some stage but is not apart of the team to face Cyprus and Georgia.

just received the new lazio shirt, with off course, his name at the back. Fantastic player, but it's not going to be easy to be a first team player, as lichtsteiner seems like a great player.

De Silvestri still has alot of potential and since Lichsteiner is playing very well this will just motivate him to work harder to be in the first 11! Its a win-win situation. Wink

Looks like Lorenzo could be heading out on loan in January

I hope it doesn't happen, even if we need to give him more game time to give him encouragement that he is good enough to win a place here.

As awesome as it is to see Lorenzo back it will hurt a lot every time one of him and Lichty sits on the bench. It was easier when i could say to myself "De Silvestri is not in form anyway". The team could really use the spirit they both have so it will quite a dilemma for Delio.

Im sure De Silvestri would do a better job than Brocchi in his position. He's not that bad when defending while, he offers alot more in attack. Meghni also can defend, while Ledesma would be given the DM position, he seems to be doing a good job while we would not depend on him to attack. De Silvestri Meghni and Ledesma are all complete midfielders to me, can do a job in defence and attack.

the right back position should be handed back to Lorenzo he is better than Litch in his finishing and made a great duo with Foggia.

As for Litch, it is so great to have him in this position as LCM instead of that delimea who should start there! Take Inter for example! Maicon as RB and Zanetti as LCM! It worked greatly and I think Rossi should try to do the same as he did it tonight! If Lorenzo went forward, Dabo would cover him and Foggia will support him! The same goes for Litch and Kolarov or Radu! This will reestablish the balance we need! If it went worng, Litch can go back to the RB position and Meghni (who did well today) should come in!

I don't think Lichtsteiner as a midfielder worked too well tonight, to be honest, he lost quite a lot of balls in a a rather silly fashion and seemd quite frustrated. Zanetti is a lot more skilled attackingwise than Lichty and can do well in crowded areas in midfield. Lichtsteiner's forte is non-stop running, he could try playing Nedved-style but he lacks the shot for that, if someone should play Nedved-style, shouldn't this be Kolarov? Good to see we have options, though, being stuck with Mauri and Manfredini is not something I'd like to experience often...Carrizo as a midfielder would be better than us just hoofing long balls to our not-so-tall stikers as we do when our midfield sucks. Wink

It's worth trying out, Brocchi hasn't had a good game in months.

I read the same, seems to be the case. We need to do whatever we can to keep him with us, but as things have developed this season we have one player that is better than LDS on his position, and if he is to develop and reach his great potential he needs to play on a regular basis. Wonder how much patience he has, because we all know that there are plenty of larger teams waiting to get this super talent for free in 2010, and so does he. He could probably sign a contract giving him more money than Lotito is ready to give him, I just hope his Lazio heart makes him stay with us for in the future he will be a great part of our team and a true symbol for all of us to "worship"..
