| I mentioned in the chat during last nights match that I had bought an old Football Italia book detailing the 1992-93 season. The book was produced after the first season shown live on Channel 4 and inevitably features quite a few references to a certain Paul Gascoigne and Lazio. It is always interesting to read about past glories and the history of calcio and see how much the league and clubs have changed. Sile asked for a few scans and so I thought I'd share a few pictures with you all. The first match televised that season was our 3-3 draw at Sampdoria when Gazza was out but Signori scored 2. It says that Gazza was very impressed with him, stating that he had never heard of him when he arrived but after watching him play began to think he was one of the best players he'd ever seen! There are references to Signori's amazing season of goalscoring and Gazza's Derby equaliser, along with a brief history of the club and a bit about Piola and Chinaglia. It's strange to see players like Favalli just making the start of their career (he had been in the Under 21's with Bonomi and Marcolin (remember him!) while they were all at Cremonese but we bought the lot for £10mil!!!). | |
