That's a tall comparison for sure. But i don't think Crespo is coming. Neutral

I think the injury on Zarate, despite being of a not so serious character, will be the decider; we will sign another attacker before the end of the mercato. It has araised the possibility of Makinwa being a starter for a longer period, and I am not really sure Rossi is ready to gamble with only that option.

This is a bit irrelevant now as we know Zarate is out for Cagliari and Makinwa will likely play but....

However selfish or unproven Zarate is, I see no reason why Makinwa would be played ahead of him. If Zarate was selfish and a bit erratic like Pandev in his first year, at least he would score 3 - 5 goals and then improve next year if we bought him - unproven but with potential. Makiwa is proven to not score for us. He did not score a goal at all last year on loan either. He was not good enough to keep as a reserve last year as Bianchi came in and he was loaned out. Now we have a new forward who was hyped up big-time and although a different player to Rocchi could offer more than a player who has already proved he offers almost nothing. There are teams that play a fluid forward line with no actual strikers in the traditional sense but score goals and create many chances (yes I might be thinking of Merda). With Makinwa, I'm sorry but we create little. He always has his back to goal and can not find Pandev with neat passes but Zarate could do this and more. Yes, when Rocchi is back then give the guy a rest and rotate him a bit but surely when it was known that Rocchi was out, Zarate should have been tried more in relation to a starting formation with Pandev and Mauri/Foggia.

A bit strange that Zarate took part in today's friendly and even managed to score 3. Though Rossi went with a 4-4-2 and started Pandev and Makinwa upfront, so he is still likely to only make the bench against Cagliary.

Its insane, Makinwa has not been a good player all of his time playing in Lazio (Or in Italy for that part either!)
Rossi needs to see that it were a stupid transfer trade with Makinwa and just accept his misstake.

Today : Cagliari Lazio
Zarate declaration

If the summer introductions were good, then the start of the Championship was a dream.
2 goals for Mauro Zarate on the first match where Lazio beat Cagliari by 4 goals to 1 at the Sant'Elia.
"I'm very pleased with this victory which was a little unexpected after the start we made, the Argentine said to the microphones of SKY.
We began to think badly but instead, in the second half, we got the ascendancy with the midfield and we turned it round.
This victory is dedicated to my family and everyone in Lazio.
A hope? I hope, with this squad we will continue to grow upwards".

are there any Argentines on here??

how close is Maurito to a national team call up?? Obviously Argentina have probably the best attack in the world, so its hard to get in, but surely he's on the fringes of selection

That's actually good for us, I'd rather not see our players travel halfway across the globe, even though I have a soft spot for Argentina. It's not as if there is any chance they aren't going to qualify, after all.

Leonardo: Pato's too lazy

Milan legend Leonardo warns Alexandre Pato he’ll never break into the first team unless he works hard in every training session.

The 18-year-old was a sensation when completing his £10m move from Internacional, but disappointed at the Beijing Olympics and in pre-season.

“He has all the quality of a champion, but he must understand that in Italian football if you want to last for 10 years you’ve got to give 100 per cent every single day,” said Milan director Leonardo.

“He has to run, fight, sweat in training and listen carefully to the advice of Coach and teammates.”

Channel4 Sunday 7 September, 2008

I'm comparing Milan's wonder kid with ours, Mauro Zarate

Maybe Delio's decision not to put Mauro in the first squad directly was a good decision indeed... Rossi didn't want him to be spoiled... Delio knows that the kid have a big talent inside.. but it means nothing without working hard and determination.. (I hope this was Delio's reason putting him on the bench, not because of Delio trusted Makinwa more)

So far so good.. go go Mauro Zarate!!

I have similar opinion. Zarate is young and needs discipline.
Pato was made almost a star ,even before to have one single game played for AC Milan and Serie A.That played a trick on him and his form/performance I think.
The same for Zarate, it is too early to make him a star(even after those 2 against Cagliari), he shouldn't think that he is 100 % titular and to become bumptious.

I hope so, but I dont worry much, because we are Lazio, not Milan. We are "small" club like totina said. Being superstar here is another thing. Deilo always great in working with youth. I'm sure he can produce another star like Pandev etc
