Apparently the Brazilian is close to sealing a loan deal with Lazio. He has played in Italy before with a various selection of clubs, but is at the moment with the Spanish side Zaragoza...

According to some news, his current clubs official website list him among the departing players and his destination is Lazio...

I have always liked him! I think he is coming as Ledesma substitute or they are going to play together in the center. I wish him good luck, he could be very useful. Definitely he is capable of great things and has a lot of experience in Serie A. I don't know why, but when we was after Amoruso, it dawned on me a thoughts about him.....

i don't really know him, does he play as defensive midfield or offensive or both???? can someone upload a picture or a video ??

He is able to play both way. But mostly he is offensive.

You mean he was.He's coming from Zaragoza...

it doesn't matter where he's coming from, he's a really good player and would be a fantastic signing for us if it really happens. He would be a great option in the midfield beside Ledesma, but could also replace Ledesma sometimes. I also liked Fernandez, but i must admit that Matuzalem is a much better alternative. He has a much bigger experience playing in Serie A and in the big games with Shaktar in the CL.

Matuzalem is an excellent player and exactly what we missed last season. Somebody to play behind Rocchi and Pandev and to actually pass them.
His arrival would give Rossi many tactical possibilities...
We could play 4-4-2:
Carizzo - De Silvestri, Rozenhal, Cribari, Radu - Lichtsteiner, Ledesma, Matuzalem, Foggia - Rocchi, Pandev
or 4-3-3:
Carizzo - De Silvestri, Rozenhal, Cribari, Radu - Dabo, Ledesma, Matuzalem - Rocchi, Pandev, Zarate
or 3-4-1-2:
Carizzo - Rozenhal, Cribari, Radu - Lichtsteiner, Ledesma, Dabo, Kolarov - Matuzalem - Rocchi, Pandev
or our classical 4-3-1-2:
Carizzo - De Silvestri,Rozenhal, Cribari, Radu - Mudingayi, Ledesma, Dabo - Matuzalem - Rocchi, Pandev
etc etc (ignore the other players, this is meant more to show where Matuzalem and Lichtsteiner can integrate)...

I believe that Matuzalem and Lichtsteiner are 2 very well thought deals!

He is even better than Ledesma!! well, sorry... Ledesma is way better than him in defending but at least for attacking he is better...

I hope this is not just another silly distraction by the sneaky Lotito..

I always liked this guy when he was in Serie A and then remember watching some UCL with him at Shaktar and he always played well and provided good attacking alternatives. From the few Zaragoza games I watched he did pretty well too so if this is true I would welcome him with arms wide open!

Fellow Lazio people,

Matuzalem is 28, and is known as a hardworking,skillful and prolific midfielder...Has travelled through the serie A at Napoli , Parma (where he didnt play), Piacenza where he was co owned..Also played and Brescia then went to Shaktar and was a goal machine..Albeit in the Ukrainian league but Shaktar did fairly well in the CL this year...

From when I remember him in the Serie A he is creative, good passing, and a real link to his forward..Has a great left foot, a free kick threat and can only help Ledesma in the middle!

This would really cap off quite a fantastic summer for us..We would now have options in the midfield..Would still be good to take fernandez...but I really think we have enough quality if this deal goes through..

Any thoughts?

could be the best signing in Europe this year, the guy has been quality in the past, he should be peaking at his age and this could be brilliant!

I remember him best from his Brescia days.he is en excelent player.just what we need at left middfield role where mutarreli had played.and guys he is no trequartista or suport striker.yes he has scored lot of goal at shaktar but he is a central midfielder.

I still think fernandez will come and pinzi will not.but if fernandez dont get his passport then he wont be able to come becose Matuzalem will take second non-EU spot.but what I have heard its just matter of days when fernandez will get his passport.

To be honest, I am really happy with this potential transfer.

Matuzalem is a player who can boss the midfield and take control, if I am not wrong, he can fire powerful long shots and has gotten quite a number of goals with it too, similarly to Dabo. He should be there to put the pressure on Ledesma, I have no qualms letting him sit in Cristian's place the moment he turns underpar (80% of the time). These 2 should slog it out in training and fight for a place as Lazio's holding midfielder.

really good news, this player really is good for us really we need a player that can controll the game in this hand & play in both def and mid, especially that his transfer is loan & we dont need pay for him, totally its great move

According to transfermarketweb he is signed, he will make a million per year...

Yes that is a strange thing.

Players are coming with higher salaries than the old ones! I think Mutalezm deal will last only for 1 year as with Bianchi before.
