Inzaghi: I'm back!

Lazio wanted Simone Inzaghi out this summer, so he feels tonight's goal has a special meaning, while Mario Beretta concedes the draw was correct.

Inzaghi was one of several players who were frozen out of the Biancocelesti squad in pre-season and ordered to train separately at the Formello ground.

“I dedicate this goal to my uncle, who died this week, and to myself. It wasn't easy to train hard on my own for two months,” he said of the 1-1 draw with Lecce.

“I thought I'd be back in the side earlier, but that's alright. I am happy for me and for the team, because we did not deserve to lose tonight.

“We earned a good point, but now it is already time to focus on the next match, because we strongly wanted the three points today and it didn't happen.”

This result leaves Lazio's leadership of Serie A at risk, but it could so easily have been worse, as Lecce were leading until the 89th minute through Simone Tiribocchi.

“The draw is the right result, I suppose,” mused Lecce boss Beretta. “We played an excellent first half, were very aggressive and created some chances we should've dealt with better.

“As the second half wore on, Lazio turned up the pressure. We went too deep, but not out of choice, quite simply their quality players were pinning us back.”

Maybe this was a good thing we didnt score the opener. Because then Lazio would have taken the wheel of this match. But now we were fighting and fighting till the last second and we were saved by this forgotten man.....SIMONEEEEEE

Inzaghi isnt Serie A quality any more, but certainly I think if he played in Serie B he could still do serious damage

How many minutes did it take him to score? Whereas Makinwa didnt score for 2 clubs last season, and at Reggina he was a regular!

This was Inzaghino's first goal since Reggina 2004. and a very important one too. If we make CL by 2 pt at the end of the season, we'll know who to thank

I only wonder how makinwa feels about this...

Inzaghi reminds me of lazio 1999-2001, a wonderful period, i hope he continues on his form, and see more of him

I dont think he will be getting too many chances, soon we have Rocchi back and with him enough options up front to be honest. I am happy if he scores of course, but I am having a hard time seeing this as a come back or similar.

inzaghi is a joke nowadays. and screaming bastardo to ur coach when ur on a fringe list is not too smart fopr future chances. inzaghi is finished

We can only hope that he will take Makinwa's bench place in the long term. You can't really say Del Nero is a proper centre forward to be honest.

Well recently Simone has put pen to for a new contract to 2011. According to his agent he wants to end his career with us.

If I was Inzaghi I would started to visit cooking classes long time ago.

With the sale of Makinwa to Chievo there might still be a few first team opportunities for Inzaghi this season unless Lotito has a new striker in his sights.

I know Inzaghi has a lot of history at the club and its great to still have one of our scudetto winners around but why did we extend his contract and why is he still earning his current wage of 950,000 euro a year??!?!?!?

We know Delio doesn't rate him and 950k is more than most in the squad earn.

I like the guy a lot actually but its a poor decision. I hope he gets some chances and puts a couple away. There are times when we could probably use a poacher.
