| According to several online spanish newspapers (including Marca, As, Sport and El Mundo Deportivo), Jarque was found dead during the team's pre-season, in their training camp in Coverciano, Italy. It is reported that Jarque was on the phone to his girlfriend in the team hotel when he suffered the heart attack. He was found after teammates realised he had not shown for a meal.

| LaLigaAmerica reports that he took part in training as normal but later passed out while on the phone to somebody and doctors couldn't revive him. Comparisons have been drawn to Ruben de la Red's heart problem. | |
