It really annoys me when people complain about the lack of talent in our youth ranks.
Facts are:
The "laziali" have left us for clubs who are coincidentally, better placed to launch an assault up the table and pay much better salaries. Thus, our best talent is coming from other countries.
Yes, our youth system is a mess and is partly to blame but why is Kozak and Cavanda still here, proving their worth and having no complaints about the system while the likes of Faraoni piss off?
Or why is Muslera still here, willing to sign a new contract of the same value that Pandev took us to court over because we were unfair on him or that Kolarov didn't even bother to negotiate?
We have made mistakes in the past but this season could very well be a clean slate. And the reason why is not because we have changed our ways but because the personnel is more moral, more decent.

My only question is why are we playing pointless friendlies every day? No offense to Vicenza, or Auronzo, or Feltrese, but these team aren't going to trouble us, we scored dozens goals against them, doesn't mean we are ready for this season..

I was thinking the same thing. Why can't we make a tour in America or China like a lot of the other teams ? We can play against better teams and maybe earn some more money by advertising the club's name.

Depends what you want to achieve? From Reja's perspective, he is trying out new formations, blending in new blood to the team and trying out different tactics!
He's doing it with the lower quality teams (as does most other big teams) so that they have a chance to practise what they've been doing in training. You dont want to be trying out new things against big name clubs and get beaten right?
Its a common practise that most teams do in pre-season training.

I understand where you coming from Roo, but I still think playing against worthy opposition team is far more important than playing an amateur team... If a coach couldn't make up his mind up about the formation (after more than 5 months with us), then we're pretty much screwed, it's not like we're having a new players anyway (with the only exception Bresciano, Pintos and Gonzalez), the majority of the squad are the same from last season.
The only hurdle we had so far, was playing against Iran, where we didn't play well, we didn't create enough chances, we could only manage to win 2-1 against Vicenza (the team who finished 14th on 2009/2010) that should ring a bell for us, We need quality not quantity!!

Here is a small report from my day in auronzo. When we arrived in auronzo i couldn't believe my eyes!everywhere where I saw flags and scarfs were hanging out of the windows! First went to have lunch because we just had a 2h ride from Chioggia, when i wanted to pay and the owner of the ristorante heard that a was a Laziali from belgium he gave me a big discount:tongue: then went to the trainingground it was close to a very very beautifull lake the game itself wasn't that good a 2-1win,but hey a win is a win!
Okay here are my pics from the match against Vicenza [/url
I am really glad to see your pics my friend! Meanwhile i am very sorry for what happened to you with this "guards". I already send a mail to the press manager to inform him what happened to you.

Frederick, its not about the coach not making up his mind, it could very well be that the players aren't doing what he's requesting? If you're playing amateur teams and you're STILL not able to do what the coach has specifically asked, theres going to be problems against the bigger teams?
There are so many different ways the 3 - 5 - 2 can be played and the coach has to find a way that BEST suits the team....some players may not understand/agree on how it should be played and until everyone is on the same page, you have to keep practising!

Keep in mind, we have been playing friendlies in a very depleted state, with the focus being on conditioning and tactical experimentation rather than winning the actual games.
Reja is quite a traditional tactician and basically, he sees certain players fitting certain systems. In saying that, he wants to also make the most of what he has at his disposal. For example, he has tried Zauri and Gonzalez in a multitude of positions because he wants to find their role in our squad but he knows Zarate works best playing off the main striker or on the left side of a three man attack, he knows in his head that Ledesma and Matuzalem compliment each other, he knows he likes Radu on the left, Dias on the right, Biava anywhere in the backline, Stendardo central.
What I'm trying to say is that he knows what he wants with the majority of this squad and the players know what he asks. With those he doesn't know well, he is trying to find a solution. With players outside the first eleven, such as Diakite', he is trying to make them as versatile as possible because he knows they're good if not quite good enough.
And he does all this to keep the squad size down, to give us options and to create a united bunch. So far this pre-season, that is what he has done. 3-5-2 is primary formation, but he is testing out other options. Come September, things should be more convincing.
Since we have come to Auronzo, we have made scintillating starts to the season so the premise appears correct.
