| well I just hope Rossi realises that:
1. this 3-4-1-2 will not work against your average Serie B opposition, never mind the likes of Inter. 2. that we need another good defender because Siviglia is past it and Cribari looks weak too. 3. that we need to play 4-3-3 in our next game and put Tuia and Diakite at centre back and see how capable we really are.

| Now this is the real value of Siviglia and Cribari...Their time in Lazio's first eleven is over.I think Cribari,Mutarelli should leave in case if we sign 2 replacement for their place.Siviglia should remain as a teacher for the youngsters.Isn't a little bit strange for you how easily we signed them(Cribari,Mutarelli) from little clubs, like Udine and Palermo? They're not for Lazio. My opinion is that if we don't sign another midfielder and a good,I say good, defender, the other signing are just nothing. What is the sense if ex. Zarate scores 2 goals and Matuzalem 1 in a match and we conceed 5 goals? | |

| I am a bit surprised at the result but taken into consideration that Rossi surely tried different tactics, formations, combinations and so on with the players it is not that big of a surprise. But yes surely now Rossi will probably see that Lazio need 4 defenders at the back because currently the team seems not to be functioning too well with only 3 there.
Btw where was Radu for this game??

| He played against Italy's Olympic team on Tuesday and was one of the best players from the pitch.Rocchi and De Silvestri was there too.

the team is trying everything out at this early stage, now think. Its only the 3rd match, Rossi will now realise that the defence is not too good, there are still 5 weeks left of the mercato, giving us time to sign another defender and gel him in with the team.
its better that this happens now rather than after the season starts, we should be happy we lost because it shows Rossi where the problems are for him to fix.
we get nothing out of winning 8-0 every week without the defence being tested, those easy games are just to perfect the formation and allow the players to get used to their positions in the team.

| you are right Laziottimo, this is what I was saying for decades.
It is normal to conceed in 3 defense system, but the abnormal thing is they are still not learning from their damaging mistakes.
Hopefully Rossi will manage to solve them eventhough our needs are clear: we want new defenders.

| I think that Cribari and Siviglia made it very clear last season that they haven't what it takes to form our central defense this season.
Siviglia's age has made him too slow.
Cribari continuously show that he'll never learn from his nonchalantly mistakes on the pitch.
There isn't much more to say, really.

| I think that a 3 man defence is the wrong way to go. It is always hard to adjust to a new system and it will really highlight any errors made by players who were so poor last year. Cribari, Rozenhal and Siviglia must have some confidence issues going into the new season no matter what formation is played. Even with a faultless pre-season and good start there will always be a few doubts in their minds due to how they played last year. Changing the formation will only emphasise any problems and I'm certain this is not what is needed. The goalkeeper who, however good, is not going to instantly gel with the defenders will only add to what I can see as some confusion. 3 defenders also brings up the worry that if Mutarelli leaves, then the defensive midfield option is just Dabo to cover for all the attacking players and wing-backs. I can see the doubts over Kolarov in a 4 man defence but surely there are times you want attacking full-backs against weaker oposition and if not then Radu can play. I hope this experimenting leads to a good formation but one that the players are at ease in, not having to learn. | |

Exactly. I hope this game prompts Rossi that playing 3-5-2 with all the three CBs being relatively slow is a suicide. And of course, Lichtsteiner playing just a few days after arriving in Italy probably did not help. If we are to play 3-5-2 we either need a good quaick new CB or hope that Radu stays fit and play like superhuman all season. Or make the wingbacks defend too much which would make the system rather pointless to begin with.

| I know a 4-3-3 is going to present a small selection problem, namely Radu or Kolarov at LB, but to be honest, if they're both fit, Rossi should rotate them because it will be difficult for any 21/22 year old to play 40/45 games in a season without fatigue setting in.
Why have we got Lichtsteiner and De Silvestri for the right side? Simply because even the best youngsters need cover.
a 4-3-3 is the way to go, this formation will not work with our current defense. Rossi can't keep playing this 3-4-1-2 until he finds a way to ake it work because it may never work with the players we have.

| Just wondering, are there any comments to make about this game? Perhaps which players played and linked up well with others. Just to get an idea....
I would like to see Rossi try out either the 4-3-3 formation or the 4-3-1-2 one.

| Lotito trusts in Lazio Saturday 26 July, 2008 Channel 4 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- President Claudio Lotito isn’t too happy with Lazio’s fixture list, but is sure the team is good enough to impress this season. On paper the calendar has been kind to the Biancocelesti, who begin away to Cagliari and then welcome Sampdoria to the Olimpico. “Avoiding the clashes with the big clubs in the early rounds do give us some leeway, but it is only an apparent advantage,” warned the patron. “Regardless of the team you are facing, what counts is the determination with which you step on to the pitch and I just hope the side is ready and fired up for every match.” There has been tension at Lazio in recent months and a Press silence continues into pre-season training. Since director of sport Walter Sabatini resigned and Valon Behrami moved to West Ham United, Coach Delio Rossi has hinted he is not entirely happy with the transfer policy. “We have integrated the squad as we saw fit, taking players with great potential,” insisted Lotito on Datasport. “The verdict on this Lazio side is more than positive. Rossi also confirmed he has a group of players at his disposal who have good technique. We need to start on the right foot, above all focusing on the team spirit that has served us so well in the past.” Massimo Mutarelli is going to be the next to leave and tension is rising with the squad divided into two camps. “Those who remained behind at Formello are doing the same training as the ones in the Auronzo pre-season camp. There is no group of good and bad, we just split the squad into two elements. “If an offer arrives for Mutarelli, then we will consider it, though we don’t want to sell anyone on the cheap. We are negotiating with Bologna and are close to sending them Guglielmo Stendardo.” Uh oh, this could mean he is happy enough with the squad and isn't going to sign anyone else. | |

| Anybody who was left out of the Auronzo di Cadore training camp is available for purchase. I don't think Mudingayi was really on the transfer list, but rather a good deal was offered and Lotito took it. I think Mutarelli senses that we need another defensive midfielder and that he may be able to force his way into the squad but my thoughts are Mutarelli will be sold and then a new defensive midfielder will be drafted in.
With regards to the training camp, I think we failed our first test and really, I would expect Rossi to field a very strong side and put on a bit of a show against Padova to avoid heavy criticism from the media.
