I strongly disagree with you on this. For me the Europa league is a golden opportunity to get our name back in Europe. We have not done anything significant in Europe for a very long time now and even if we're playing the more lowly part of european football, we should not start making excuses about why we might fail in this competition.

Getting our name back in Europe is extremly important for us, if we want to attract better players in the future.

For me the top 6 in the league is already gone for us, we need to focus on the cup ( again sadly ) and the europa league.

I agree... i waited so long to see Lazio back in UCL..and now in Uefa/Europa League. This is where our name is back in everyones eyes. For my part..i`d chose to relegate and to win Europa League .. (not that i`m that radical).

That line-out looks very worrying to say the least.

Although i agree with playing Eliseu in Spain as he knows what he is up against.

Lazio has to restore its name in Europe. Unfortunately, success speaks volumes. During the Cragnotti era, we were highly respected worldwide, since the downfall, that has changed.

I will never forget the BBC's feature on hooliganism in Rome. They had a list of 11 incidents; 10 of them caused by Riommamerda and 2 of them by our tifosi (one of the incidents was that infamous derby with the riots). It was completely unjust that we were wrote off as hooligans.

Doing well in the Europa League will go some way to restoring our pride. This is more than just a soccer game tonight and this tournament is more than a competition to us. The players need to realise that.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

It's naive to think we can make a result by fielding yesterday's primavera in a key position, megaflop as left wing, Mauri in not his natural position and playing with one striker against a team that dominated us at our home.

Damn those itv4 muppets for false advertising... I was looking forward (with a touch of fear too) to seeing a second televised game.

No Senna is a big plus for us, he can dominate any midfield not to mention our band of misfits. Eliseu hasn't really had a chance to show what he can do in his brief substitute appearances, maybe like Bridge-Bhoy said he can use his knowledge of Spain to our advantage. Maybe...

Call me mad, but a 3-2 defeat would still have things in our own hands after today, would be tempted to settle for it?

Obviously we never want a defeat but in this cae, 3-2 would be far from disatrous.

I've spent long enough worrying about this game, making calculations and predictions, but now 3 hours before the game all I can think about is kicking their asses smack dab in the middle of Madrigal and show them Lazio is a force.

I agree with what Caxi said in his last post, especially with the phrase "This is more than just a soccer game tonight and this tournament is more than a competition to us". Europe league is indeed not just a competition to us. And i`m not talking only about money, fame and stuff like that... but i think that sponsors and all..will watch us with different eyes if we qualify. What good will do for us? Bigger budget (television transmission....and we all know what media industry is there this days). And considering that Lazio is a well known brand (but forgotten) ... a good result with Villa could bring us to a brighter future. Not today or tomorrow... but maybe in 2-3 years.
