Porto Banned From The Champions League

UEFA have decided to ban FC Porto from all European Competitions for a period of one year as a result of the Apito Final (Final Whistle) case...

The Dragons had been found guilty of fixing two league matches in the 2003/04 season and UEFA were investigating the case to decide whether to bring any sanction against the Portuguese champions.

UEFA have now decided to apply a one-year ban, which will see Porto missing out on European football next year.

According to Article 1 of the Champions League regulations, a club "must not be or have been involved in any activity aimed at arranging or influencing the outcome of a match at national or international level."

News sources in Portugal claim that FC Porto have already informed the Portuguese Stock Exchange of UEFA's decision and that the Dragons will appeal against the ban.

Porto hope that this case will have a similar ending of Milan's in 2006. After originally being barred because of a corruption investigation, the Rossoneri won the right to play in the Champions League after an appeal.

In case Porto lose their appeal, fourth-placed Benfica are expected to win the right to play in the Champions League third qualifying phase.

It is crazy , but obviously UEFA has no mercy against all manner of violations.

Well, mark my words...as I wrote in the Italian section BEFORE this one was created...Milan, will some how get into the CL!

Ali, I hope this is true...because they do NOT deserve to be in the CL (Milan that is).

I cant see on what criteria Milan will take the Bulgarian CL spot. As Calciopolli was , the same is here.

I am happy that Barcelona and Liverpool both qualifed as did Atletico but my hometown team, Levski lost out 2-1 to BATE from Belarus.... its good how alot of new teams are entering from Eastern Europe. Well done!

FORZA Cluj....I don't even know where they are from but I can't stand their opponents......I secretly despise the English and the French (not the people but the teams) and Merda is Merda.

Group D is a killer. Liverpool will have a hard time progressing.

Nice to have Danish football represented in CL again with AAB. But guys,beleive me when I say: they will flop. But good money and good points for Denmark.. Especially when the national team sucks that big atm...

naaah Bordeaux can make something but it will be tough.And chelsea is going to crush merda

Bordeaux are a good team, I like them and hopefully they can cause problems for Merda and get good results out of their games with them. Chelsea will surely beat Merda at Stamford Bridge and even in Rome. Cluj will be no pushovers - they are the Romanian champions aren't they? They could very well get a point - if not more, at home.

CFR Cluj are current league and cup holders in Romania, they beat Steaua to the title. I think they were well clear at the half way point but got caught by Steaua and only just held them off. Steaua were UEFA Cup semi-finalists 2 seasons ago, although they were very poor in the CL last season. I think the league has started again, can any of our romanian friends tell us more about Cluj?

Yeah I know Steaua were Uefa Cup semifinalists a few seasons ago. I think they are one of the oldest Romanian clubs around? I think I read it somewhere - or I got the wrong club correct me if I am wrong!

Celtic and Man U again, brilliant! Also great to see Rangers eliminated before the competition even begins!
