- actually it was nice seeing Rocchi and Pandev again on the attck.. they made some smart moves and the game pace was much more faster! yet, i doubt rossi will choose this plan, as Zarate kid has been doing a great job and we can't dismiss him bcoz of one game..
Forza Lazio! must win! wonder if we could use Zarate and Foggia on the wings?
I would like to think there is a safe way of getting Za-Pa-Ro-Fo in the team. Are you thinking about a 442? Zarate and Foggia wingers, RoPa strikers and Ledesma and someone else CM? And not attacking side backs? Right! Zarate at left mid, Foggia on the right, Pandev and Rocchi in attack, Ledesma & ______ in midfield and Radu and Lichtsteiner as the backs.
Reggina game may be a good time to try something new. If we can get Za-Pa-Ro-Fo to work then we won't need to invest much this January. I think this would be a perfect formation, as we can assure we have four defenders fixed in the back, no more risks.. Zarate is most efficient on the right wing, Foggia on the left, and they can swap continuously as Iniesta and Messi are doing with Barcelona. Rocchi will be deep in the attack and Pandev slighly behind him connecting all lines. Dabo/Brocchi or Mautzalem could accompany Ledesma in the CM. this would be a dream formation IMO.

| Itīs an interesting discussion...
For a long time I believed the 4-2-3-1 formation was perfectly suited for the player material at Delio Rossiīs disposal. Rocchi as the deep attacker, Pandev slightly behind and Zarate and Foggia on each wing. Ledesma together with a pure defensive midfielder in the middle of the park (Probably Dabo or Brocchi) and a straight backline with Lichtsteiner, Radu, Rozehnal and one between Siviglia and Cribari.
As time went by, I feel quite sure itīs way too offensive for this Lazio. Our "dear" neighbours actually succeeded to a certain degree with the same formation, but many opinions suggested that mainly was because the likes of Perotta, Taddei and Vucinic worked very hard defensively. Something which didnīt apply to Mancini and was the reason why he often started on the bench in his last season. That defensive workrate doesnīt apply for our three players in the line behind Rocchi and I think it would be really difficult and in my opinion also a real shame to demand that from players like Zarate, Pandev and Foggia. Not to mention that our defence is too horrible to afford four players who only works forward.
However, I think this discussion reveals some of the reasons why we have struggled quite a lot lately. Delio Rossi failed to find a formation he could stick to, both in defence but even more in offence.
What is Zarateīs best position. Is he a striker, is he an offensive midfielder, is he a winger? I think Rossi never found the answer to that question.
What is the ideal offense for this Lazio and which players fill out the positions in the best way? Also that question, Delio Rossi failed to find the answer. Too many changes from game to game. Both with regards to the formation, but also players constantly rotated between various positions and new roles.
I think we need to find our own identity as a team. This is how we play, this is your role. And from that point we can really start to build the team...

| I agree with Pepper.. Rossi still needs to find out how to employ his new talents the best way possible (I mean Zarate and Foggia).. as for the defense, i think nailing 4 defenders in the back will help us avoid all these goals we are conceding mainly bcoz of counterattacks. Ledesma and another defensive midfielder would do the job of connecting this line to the attacking boys. Last season, when we got Bianchi, and Rossi introduced the trident idea, Pandev switched from being a full attacker to become a play maker, and he was perfect in that role.. bianchi ofcourse was useless and we cannot compare him neither to Zarate or Foggia, while Rocchi did very well deep in the attack.. IMO, we tried the 4-3-3 and it wasn't so useful till now, our new players aren't finding themselves in this system, while i'm sure they can do much better if Rossi chages slightly his tactics. a 4-4-2 system might be useful, Zarate and Foggia will enjoy running and dribbling on the wings starting from midfield instead of wasting their speed deep in attack. | |

This is a home game for them and they need 3 points so it should be counter attack all the way.

| There's talk that Bologna really want Corradi and a couple of other important Reggina players could also be on their way out.
Hopefully if their moves haven't been secured by the 11th they're unsettled at least.

| Here some stats I came up with about our first match after the brake since the scudetto year: 05/01/2000 15a giornata Venezia-LAZIO 2-0 07/01/2001 13a giornata LAZIO-Napoli 1-2 06/01/2002 17a giornata Inter-LAZIO 0-0 12/01/2003 16a giornata Brescia-LAZIO 0-0 06/01/2004 15a giornata Reggina-LAZIO 2-1 06/01/2005 17a giornata LAZIO-Roma 3-1 08/01/2006 18a giornata LAZIO-Ascoli 4-1 14/01/2007 19a giornata LAZIO-Siena 1-1 and 2008 LAZIO-Genoa 1-2 These results are not that pleasant. Even the year we won the scudetto we crashed after the christmas brake against Venezia who the same season got relegated. It's strange though, the seasons when we really were in crisis we won those "after christmas matches". Let's see what happens this year Edit: http://www.interlog.it/enciclopedia/storia.php?action=stper&id=9The link from wich i found the results | |

| Difficult match, but Reggina hasn't had a good season too, sitting just one place above Chievo (last place).
We need to get a result in here, hopefully 2 weeks off could do us good.. the problem is, Lazio, I've noticed for the past couple seasons, especially after lengthy break, we didn't get a good result, I don't know why, maybe because we're lacking of match fitness? lack of preparation?

| Lichtsteiner is out injured so Lorenzo gets his chance. I really, really hope he is one of the best tonight.
Rossi will try Za-Pa-Ro again which means Foggia will come on as a sub if we need to push for a late goal.
Dabo, Ledesma and Meghni in the midfield.
so basically we will unleash a our strongest attacking players against the league's worst defence. I think we will score goals, the key for me is to keep a solid backline cause Brienza and Corradi can punish teams.
We saw last season, Cozza made us pay for a terrible attempt at the offside trap.
Game is ours to lose. We need a win to shoe we mean business and it would boost the team's confidence for the new year.

I heard Brocchi would be picked ahead of Dabo. This will be an interesting selection, neither have been fit enough to see who is first choice. Also, Diakite seems to be getting the nod for defence.

As Caxi said if the backline learned offside trap basics we should be fine.
