Europa League, Lazio - Elfsborg, Thursday, 20-8-09

wonder if anyone knows if any tv-channel are going to broadcast this game?



I´m from Borås in Sweden (hometown of IF Elfsborg). If anyone have any questions about the town or the team I can answer!

I agree.

Elfsborg eliminated Braga; I can't glaze over that result, it was a euphoric win over two legs.

Braga are the same side who destroyed Portsmouth in the Europa League last season. At the time, I'd say Pompey were as good as we are now.

We have more quality but their fitness levels is going to give us a colossal problem. If they grab a goal at the Olimpico, we are in big, big trouble.

Such an important game so early on.

We cannot be complacent in any way.

As i said before its all about a clean sheet, with that hopefully a win.

Ballardini will probably have one eye on Atalanta as well.

Braga eliminated last season Belgian champions Standard with a classy display at home 3-0, but I guess they lost some if their top players to Portugal top teams and even their coach.

But we have to be carefull, it always difficult to play against teams up North, who are already playing for months in thier Leagues.

Exactly. That's what's worrying me most, that the Swedish league has been on since April while our season hasn't start yet.

A few things are worrying, and after watching their latest game in the league, the following should be taken into account;

They are sitting comfortably joint second in the league, and most people agree that Elfsborg is the best team in Sweden with some quality players in Andersson, Bajrami and Ishizaki (a good midfield right there).
They have plenty of confidence after eliminating Braga, easily.
At home, they have a "plastic turf", and as I have read they will only give Lazio 1 training session on their home ground.
They are in the middle of their season...

If we would be at our peak, and they would as well, we would probably beat them pretty easily...but considering the existing situation, I am not so sure this will be as easy as it should be...

According to Lalaziosiamonoi:

Muslera, Kolarov, Cribari, Siviglia, Lichtsteiner, Baronio, Mauri, Matuzalem, Brocchi, Zarate, Cruz.

I've been told that Keene won't feature for Elfsborg and that probably explains the more likely inclusion of Cribari (his experience more important than Diakite' physicality). Cruz is preferred over Tommaso I believe, probably a technical choice on Ballardini's part more than anything.

No Foggia again.... when will he be allowed to become the star he surely can? Surely Dabo should be in for his European experience which, however limited, is more than Baronio has. A solid performance and a bit of good luck will be needed tonight, we must not concede an away goal. Forza Lazio

why foggia isnt in first team,save him for sunday game or something between him and ballardini ?

let's hope for those 2 on Sunday evening then, Ballardini has to make some tuff decisions now

Gutted that Foggia and Dabo won't start. Also Diakite but that may well be a technical decision.

Im not scared that Siviglia and Cribari starts, im not saying that i prefer them both over Diakité either, im just saying that if Siviglia and Cribari can´t handle Elfsborgs attack then they shouldnt play in Serie A!!! I dont think we are going to have a problem with Elfsborg, just dont underestimate them, then were not gonna have any problems, cause if it goes bad, then we have a big problem.

I think Foggia is not in the first 11 cause we can't go in this clash attacking a team that has played for 5 months already.Foggia will come in in the second half probably and I wouldn't be surprised if he starts against Atalanta. Remember we have 2 fronts to fight this year so we need to rotate the team. Ballardini is cautious I think. As for Baronio - probably he sees something in him I don't know. Cribari-Sivigla was our main DC pair last season and they are used to playing together. It's going to be a tough game so we need exp in the back. I can't explain the low attendance .. that's bad ! FORZA LAZIO! I believe we can get a comfortable win!

We need to be smart about today. Elfsborg is in 3rd place in their domestic league w/ 10 wins, 6 draws and 3 losses. This will not be an easy match. Would have LOVED to have seen Foggia, but I have faith we'll be okay. I'm excited to see Cruz and Zarate play together.
